Former F1 world champion Fernando Alonso claimed his recent battle with Lewis Hamilton is not comparable with Michael Schumacher.

At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Hamilton had to make a pit stop just after the first lap due to the wrong choice of tires. As a result, the reigning champion fell at the back. As Hamilton made his way through the grid, he had an intense battle with Alpine racer Alonso.

Alonso's defense was firm as the two went wheel-to-wheel, including a brief touch before Hamilton overtook his former McLaren teammate at Turn 1 to P4.

The battle between Alonso and Hamilton became the talk of the F1 fraternity and many have compared the Hungarian duel with the one between Alonso and Schumacher at Imola in 2005, where Alonso outperformed Schumacher's faster Ferrari and fought off any attack on the way. However, according to the Spaniard, the two battles are not comparable.

In a recent interview, Alonso explained the two battles were very different, mostly because Hamilton had a faster car and he made repetitive mistakes during the Hungary race.

“Schumacher was three or four-tenths faster at that time. Hamilton had an advantage of one and a half seconds with the car and about one second with the tires, so he had an advantage of two and a half seconds," Alonso explained to DAZN, The Sports Rush reported.

While Alonso expected Hamilton to pass him much sooner, it took the Mercedes driver almost 10 laps to defeat the former Ferrari star before finishing second, behind Alonso's Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon.

“He kept making the same mistakes in the last few corners. I was waiting for him to take the last corner normally and overtake before the first corner, like he did with Carlos. He should have done the same with me, but he kept making mistakes,” added Alonso, who is a two-times world champion.

At the end of the Hungarian GP, Hamilton admitted that Alonso gave him “hell” out there but it was awesome battling with the Spain national.

"Fernando gave me hell out there. It was awesome racing, pretty on edge at least once but great racing. Looking back on it, it was amazing, it really, really was fantastic. I wish the cars could follow closer and I’m excited for what the cars are like next year. Hopefully, that eradicates a lot of that bad drafting that we have here,” said Hamilton in a post-race interview.

Ahead of the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place this weekend, Hamilton has a good eight-point lead over Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finished ninth in Hungary and earned just two points.
