  • Jon Jones has announced that he's working with boxing promoter Richard Schaefer for the Francis Ngannou fight
  • UFC president Dana White is on good terms with Schaefer
  • Stipe Miocic wants a rematch against Ngannou next year

A new update may have taken the talked-about Francis Ngannou vs. Jon Jones superfight a step closer to reality.

UFC president Dana White recently confirmed that the Ngannou vs. Lewis II title fight is likely to take place in Houston this coming August.

However, former UFC light heavyweight champ Jones--who has been the third wheel in the said fight--has brought in veteran boxing promoter Richard Schaefer to help make the Ngannou bout finally come to fruition.

Commenting on Jones’ recent effort, White suggested that he’s open to working with Schaefer, hinting that the Ngannou vs. Jones could finally be “done.”

“I like Richard Schaefer and I respect the guy,” White told Yahoo Sports. “I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a real guy. He’s a guy who gets deals done.”

Schaefer, on the other hand, also stressed the “good relationship” he has had with White.

More importantly, Schaefer assured that he will sit down with White and “find a way” to swing a deal that will be good for all parties involved.

“The UFC, being a publicly traded company now, they want to put together the biggest fights,” Schaefer told Yahoo Sports. “They’re not going to make any money if Jon Jones is sitting around. They want to find a way to structure a deal and the same is true of Jon. He wants to fight. Jon is the kind of guy, and I like that, he’ll fight anyone. He likes to challenge himself.

“On top of that, I’ve always had a good relationship with Dana. You know that,” he added. “We sort of like the same people in boxing and we hate the same people in boxing. Besides that, we’ve always respected each other. It’s just a matter of sitting down with Dana, which I will do, and find a way to structure a deal which nobody will be happy with but everybody can live with.”

Former UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic, meanwhile, has also expressed his desire to take on Ngannou once again.

According to Miocic, he’s rooting for a rematch with “The Predator” possibly “early next year.”

“I really would love to fight Francis again for the rematch and get that ‘W’ back over him in the rubber match,” Miocic told Submission Radio. “But yeah, I don’t care who it is. I’m not preferring anyone, but if I had a choice, I would want to fight Ngannou again. Just because he beat me last time and took the belt. We’ll see when I get a rematch. Maybe early next year.”
