UFC fighter and former WWE star CM Punk could be set for another lawsuit after he was sued by his old friend Colt Cobana over unpaid legal fees.

Cabana, an independent wrestler whose real name is Scott Colton, is suing Punk for a breach of conduct and fraud in Cook County Circuit Court after the latter refused to pay legal bills totaling $513,736 according to the Chicago-Sun Times.

Following Punk's departure from the WWE in January 2014, he appeared on Cobana's podcast and accused the company of poor medical treatment among other things, mainly involving a misdiagnosis of a staph infection.

Punk and Cobana, longtime friends from their days in the independent circuit, were later sued in January 2015 by WWE’s ringside physician Dr. Chris Amann for defamation.

In what was a lengthy ordeal, the pair eventually won their suit in June, just a few days before Punk was to appear in his second professional MMA fight against Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in Chicago, Illinois.

"I’m happy, I’m relieved. I’m happy for Colt Cabana, my friend, first and foremost. I’m happy for me second. I’ll always protect my friends and family. This has been pretty frivolous," Punk said after winning the trial. "I’m shocked it made it this far. I was always confident, because all I had to do is tell the truth. I’m grateful for the jury coming to the correct verdict. Being in court is nerve racking."

"I hope it’s all over, and I never have to talk about it again, and hear certain names and certain words. I don’t have to relive me being forced to work through concussions anymore, and people’s testimony about it. We can one hundred percent say it’s one of the happiest days in my life. I’ll always be looking over my shoulder I think."

However, the whole episode isn't over yet as Cabana's lawsuit claims Punk promised to help him cover the legal bills they amassed during the lawsuit with Amann, only to change his mind. The Sun Times states the details below:

"Punk asked Cabana to pay half of the legal fees, which comes out to $256,868, saying 'You are on your own.' Cabana is asking for $200,000 in general damages, along with $1 million in punitive and exemplary damages, according to the lawsuit."

The lawsuit adds that Punk "acted with fraud, malice and oppression toward Colton, with the deliberate intention of causing Colton harm."

Meanwhile, Punk is unlikely to fight in the UFC again despite having multiple fights left in his deal. The former WWE champ was thoroughly outclassed by the inexperienced Jackson at UFC 225 as he would lose via unanimous decision, taking his record to 0-2.

And while his professional debut at UFC 203 in 2016 contributed to 475,000 pay-per-view buys, his second outing did not draw nearly as well with the Chicago event drawing just 250,000 buys.

Despite being proud that he went the distance, hardcore and even casual fans are unlikely to hold an interest for a third fight involving Punk.
