Ukraine's western allies are trying to increase Ukraine's defense capabilities while Russia continues to aggressively target infrastructure in the country's large cities.

The U.S. also intends for the aid to help Ukrainian forces with their counteroffensive in the Southern Kherson region.

The funding will also provide 1,100 drones, 40 armored boats, secure communication and surveillance systems and additional training.

The U.S. has now committed a total of $18.9 billion in assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration. According to the Financial Times, Friday's financial package marks the first time the U.S. will help dispatch tanks to Ukraine.
