Justin Hartley opened up about marriage, especially when it comes to his "This Is Us" character Kevin Pearson. The actor noted that one should not get married if they are not in love.

Hartley, who attended the show's Season 6 premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday, told PageSix about Madison's character (played by actress Caitlin Thompson) canceling their wedding.

"I would say, ‘It’s a great thing, she saved you," he said, adding: "You know, you guys would have made a huge mistake. You guys weren’t in love – you don’t get married when you’re not in love. You think that everyone knows that, but it’s not a good idea."

Talking about the impulsive nature of his character, Hartley continued, "Slow and steady wins the race. Sometimes he’s impulsive about certain things. I think he steps on his neck when he does that."

The 44-year-old actor also reflected on the character's love life and teased that the final season will focus more on Kevin and Madison co-parenting their twin kids, Nicholas and Frances.

The actor explained that his character will be seen trying to be the "best dad" possible.

"And the co-parenting thing, not spending all of the time with his kids and just kind of figuring that out," he explained. "He’s got all of that going on, and I think that’ll take the lead as far as what his priorities are."

On the personal front, Hartley has been divorced twice. He was first married to actress Lindsay Hartley from 2004 to 2012. The former couple has a 17-year-old daughter, Isabella Justice.

Later, he went on to marry actress Chrishell Stause in 2017 but they got divorced in 2021. Hartley married his "The Young and the Restless" co-star Sofia Pernas in May 2021.

Caitlin Thompson also opened up about the season's finale and noted that it is going to be a happy, rewarding, and satisfying ending. While the actress noted that it is going to be a happy ending, she did tease many surprises coming this season.

"They’ve got a long road ahead of them," she explained. "I think just the nature of them co-parenting, it’s going to be the struggle of, you know, where are they now? They’re not together, but obviously they have to be for their children. They want to be good parents."

"This Is Us" is all set to return to the NBC network on Jan. 4, 2022.
