KEY POINTS

  • “Valheim” players must make sure support pillars are touching the ground when building bridges
  • A hoe can be used to raise the ground level
  • Structures can't be built over the Ocean biome

The structural integrity system in “Valheim” is a nice touch that gives the game an extra degree of realism. This also makes large structures a pain to make since players will have to take support beams and pillars in mind when building.

Bridges in particular are quite difficult to create. Apart from not being able to build while swimming, players will also have to deal with the structural integrity system. This can make building long bridges in “Valheim” seem impossible.

Luckily, there a few tricks that “Valheim” players can use to make bridge building a little bit easier.

Resource gathering tips

Players will need copious amounts of Wood (or Core Wood) and a fair amount of Stone relative to the length of the bridge they want to build. A cart to store materials in is recommended as well. The fastest way to gather Wood is to activate the Elder’s buff, which increases the tree-cutting speed of players significantly.

Alternatively, players can lure a Troll into destroying trees. Trolls typically have wide attacks that can destroy multiple trees at once.

Bridge building

Players are recommended to use at least a Karve boat when laying down a ship’s foundations over water. The Karve has a small item compartment that players can use to store extra wood, unlike the basic Raft. This will also make placing building pieces much easier.

Building pieces such as Wooden Floors and Wooden Pillars will glow a certain color when a player is highlighting them while in Building Mode. This color indicates whether or not the piece can support another object. Red objects mean the next building piece placed on it will automatically be destroyed, so take this into consideration.

Players can use a Hoe to raise the ground level under the water. This will make building foundational structures easier and cheaper.

Water Depth

This is important to consider because players won’t be able to place buildables in the Ocean biome. This biome does not have a buildable floor to place pillars on, preventing bridges from being built over them.

To figure out whether or not a body of water is deep enough, “Valheim” players can open their map and check the texture of the water. A clear, blue texture means the body of water counts as an Ocean, while a muddy texture with small waves on them means there is buildable ground beneath the water surface.

In Valheim, the clear water textures on the map represent an Ocean biome while the wavy textures indicate the presence of a buildable surface beneath the water
