Ian Somerhalder expressed his condolences on Twitter over the weekend for Sarah Jones, the “Vampire Diaries” crew member who was killed while working on the set of the Gregg Allman biopic “Midnight Rider” in Georgia last week.

Somerhalder said Jones was like a sister to him on the “TVD” set. He tweeted his condolence on Saturday.

Jones, 27, of Atlanta, was killed while filming a scene on train tracks when a CSX train unexpectedly barreled through, striking and killing her. Two other crew members of “Midnight Rider” were injured in the incident on Thursday in Jesup, Ga.

In a statement to NBC-affiliate WSAV, CSX said the Savannah-bound train was coming from Memphis. The rail company also said it was cooperating with an investigation into the accident.

"CSX is deeply saddened by a tragedy that occurred late today on a CSX rail bridge in Doctortown, Ga., and is cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate,” the statement read. “CSX personnel are working with first responders to meet the needs of those injured. The train was en route from Memphis to Savannah when the incident occurred."

In addition to Somerhalder, other cast and crew of “The Vampire Diaries” shared their thoughts on the tragedy, including executive producer Julie Plec and actor Steven McQueen.
