Fast food just got faster, as one company has created a way for a hamburger to be ordered through a vending machine.

New Jersey-based RoboBurger uses robot technology to create a burger within a complete mini kitchen that it holds inside its vending box. The burgers are made to order in only about six minutes and cost $6.99.

The company may be capable of capitalizing on the strong vending machine market. According to Grand View Research, the global vending machine market size in 2018 was valued at $30.3 billion. That figure is expected to grow in the coming years.

The RoboBurger website explains that the machine is an “artificially intelligent, self-operating and patented kitchen designed to include all of the processes of a restaurant at a fraction of the size.”

“Consisting of a refrigeration system to keep ingredients fresh, a griddle to cook and a dishwasher system to allow the unit to self-clean, making it the first machine of its kind,” the website reads.

RoboBurger was founded by chief executive officer Audley Wilson, chief technical officer Dan Braido and chief marketing officer Andy Siegel. Braido and Wilson met at Carnegie Mellon University and worked on a prototype for 16 years. They eventually brought the idea to Siegal to produce and complete the prototype.

The burgers are made of 100% Angus pasture-raised Pat LaFrieda beef, on a toasted potato bun, with aged Wisconsin cheddar, Heinz ketchup and mustard.

The machine also has a stamp of approval from the National Sanitation Foundation, for proof of capability of producing quality food and water.

The first vending machine is located in the Newport Centre Mall in New Jersey. The company hopes to open more locations soon inside malls, colleges and hospitals.

Burgers are not the only food products that come from vending machines. Others include pizza, burritos and mashed potatoes.
