Andy Serkis is so excited about joining “Venom 2” as the director that he started working on it within hours after getting hired. In a recent interview, the director shared his plans for the film and how he wants to take the main characters in “another direction.”

Serkis is currently on a press tour to promote his upcoming film “A Christmas Carol,” but he also spoke about “Venom 2,” Gamespot reported. The director said that he is still in the “beginning stages” of developing the film, but he added that he already has “clear ideas about the journey.”

The director knows what he would like to see visually in the film, and he wants to take the characters “into another direction.” Serkis’ plans for the main characters doesn’t appear to be something that he will impose on the actors, because he may be taking inputs from the cast members while developing the story.

The script of the film is currently being written by Kelly Marcel, but Seerkis revealed that lead cast member Tom Hardy is also involved in the writing process.

The story of “Venom 2” will be based on Hardy and Marcel’s take on where the story will go after the first film, Serkis revealed. The director teased that it is going to be a “very contemporary story,” and he hopes that it will be a “story piece of cinema.”

Serkis shared his excitement about helming the project and said that he is “honoured” to work in it. He added that this was a “fantastic franchise” and complimented all the cast members as being “great actors.”

Sharing the news on Instagram, Serkis joked that the Symbiote has found a host in him. He wrote that he is ready for the ride and can’t wait.

The full list of the cast is yet to be announced, but Michelle Williams told Yahoo that she will be reprising her role in the sequel. She praised Serkis in the interview and said that she is excited to learn from him.

“Venom 2” is expected to be released on Oct. 2, 2020. An exact release date is yet to be announced.
