A car chase took place on an airport runway early Monday in Lyon, France, forcing authorities to halt several flights due to the security breach. The man was arrested by Lyon police but has not been identified so far.

Lyon police confirmed the individual was driving a white car on the Highway A43 from Bron toward the airport. He drove into security barriers on the highway onto the runway of Terminal 1. The car reportedly rammed through two glass doors at Saint Expuery’s Terminal 1 to drive onto the tarmac.

Local radio Télé Luxembourg reported shots were fired at the scene during the chase.

Media reports also said flights that were scheduled to land at Lyon were diverted to Marseilles or other nearby destinations.

This is a developing story.
