As part of an effort to help prevent a record influenza season, Walgreens (WBA) is offering perks to anyone who receives a flu shot at one of its clinics.

According to the pharmacy and drug store retailer, citing a report from Australia's Department of Health and Aged Care, all signs indicate that the 2022-2023 flu season could reach pre-pandemic levels based on what has been seen thus far in the Southern Hemisphere.

The report went on to say that Australia is nearing the end of the worst flu season the country has seen in five years. The outbreak is regarded as a warning sign for the U.S. and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere.

To help reduce the spread of flu in the U.S., Walgreens is offering shots to individuals aged 3 and older at nearly 9,000 locations nationwide. In exchange, the company will provide a $5 Walgreens Cash reward to those who get a flu shot from August to December, and a $10 Cash reward to anyone who receives any type of vaccination at a Walgreens store during the month of September.

Vaccine recipients must be a myWalgreens member to receive the Walgreens Cash reward for the vaccination.

While Walgreens accepts walk-ins, it encourages people to make an appointment for shots in advance at Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine, through the Walgreens app, or by calling 1-800-Walgreens. Multiple vaccinations can be scheduled at one time as well.

Vaccination recipients will need to digitally complete consent paperwork prior to their appointment and should wear loose-fitting clothing. Also, they should bring their insurance information to the appointment.

Walgreens also offers vaccinations for COVID-19, shingles, pneumonia, whooping cough, meningitis, measles, tetanus, typhoid, and polio, as well as others types of shots.

"Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect ourselves and those around us from flu and other vaccine preventable illnesses," Dr. Anita Patel, vice president of pharmacy services development at Walgreens, said in a statement. "To help save families a trip, Walgreens pharmacists are co-administering flu shots and other recommended vaccines during a single visit."

As of Tuesday pre-market hours, shares of Walgreens were trading at $41.40, up 33 cents, or 0.80%.
