KEY POINTS

  • Space Marines is a generalist faction with strong and versatile units
  • Most Space Marine units are effective against many targets
  • A Space Marine can falter if improperly managed

The Space Marine faction is arguably the most iconic and popular of the “Warhammer 40k” universe’s roster of playable races and armies. In “Battlesector,” players get to control the marines of the Blood Angels chapter, who are known for their unyielding bloodlust.

Like all Space Marines, the Blood Angels are most effective when working together as a cohesive unit. They aren’t as spammy as the Tyranids or as specialized as the Necrons, but with all of their might combined, the Blood Angels can steamroll any skirmish.

Here are a few tips and tricks on how to use them in combat.

Army planning and composition

The greatest strength of the Blood Angels is their versatility. Even the most basic squad of Intercessors can deal with all but the most heavily-armored targets in the game. This opens up the ability to fill an army with a few specialist units like Hellblasters, Aggressors and Assault Squads.

When building armies, always consider what the enemy’s weaknesses are. High-impact abilities that can kill plenty of models at once are great against Tyranid swarms, while jump jets and other disruptive units can break a Necron battle line with relative ease.

Push wisely

Individual Space Marines are generally tougher than the standard Tyranid or Necron model. They can take quite a beating, but try not to charge an Intercessor squad through a line of Overwatched units.

Aggressors can take much more punishment than the standard marine, and their short-ranged weapons encourage players to use them as frontline fighters. Dreadnoughts and Predator tanks can fulfill this role as well.

Jump jets and melee

The Blood Angels have access to some very strong melee units in the form of Assault Squads, Sanguinary Guards, Assault Terminators and Death Company marines. Even Furioso Dreadnoughts and Aggressors can be fairly effective in melee.

While it can be tempting to use a firing line-style army, making use of these melee units can save players from taking unnecessary losses from enemies in the backline, especially from Necron Deathmarks.

Prioritize targets

This applies to all armies, but it is especially important for Space Marines. Use heavy armor-piercing weapons like plasma guns against tanky targets and try to leave spammy shooters like Inceptors and Aggressors to deal with smaller enemy swarms.

Intercessors and Assault Squads are great against clustered infantry and high-armor models respectively with their Frag and Krak Grenades.
