Center Evgeny Kuznetsov has signed a two-year, $6 million contract extension with the Washington Capitals, the team confirmed Monday. Kuznetsov, who is from Chelyabinsk, Russia, was selected with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.

He has played a total of 97 games in the last two regular seasons with the Capitals, producing a total of 46 points (14 goals and 32 assists). The 23-year-old center has a total of eight playoff appearances, accumulating seven points (five goals and two assists) in his brief NHL career.

Kuznetsov also has a rich background in international hockey, playing for Russia's Under-18 squad in 2009 and 2010, the junior squad from 2010 to 2012 and the senior squad in 2012.
