No team is a bigger favorite in Week 1 of the 2019 NFL season than the Philadelphia Eagles. They’ll host the Washington Redskins Sunday afternoon in what’s almost certain to be a one-sided contest.

Philadelphia is laying 9.5 points at home, according to the latest betting line at OddsShark, with the total set at 46. The point spread should probably be in double digits, making Philadelphia a great bet against a team that’s likely headed for a top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Few teams, if any, have more talent on the roster than Philadelphia. They are one of the league’s top Super Bowl contenders after winning the title two seasons ago and nearly reaching the 2019 NFC Championship Game.

Washington, conversely, could end up being the worst team in football. Case Keenum gives the Redskins a mediocre starting quarterback. The team doesn’t even have a reliable No.2 wide receiver, let alone a quality No.1 receiver. Add in the holdout of left tackle Trent Williams and Washington could have an extremely difficult time moving the ball against an elite pass rush.

The Eagles’ championship hopes rest on the health of Carson Wentz. It's uncertain if the quarterback will make it through a 17-week schedule, but he’s ready to go in the opener. That’s going to mean trouble for a Redskins’ defense that has never been better than average under Jay Gruden and won’t buck the trend this season.

Wentz has thrown for 881 yards and eight touchdown passes in three games against the Redskins since the start of the 2017 season. With an elite offensive line, a talented backfield and arguably the NFL’s deepest wide receiving corps, the quarterback is going to put up big numbers Sunday.

The Redskins are 1-4 against the spread in their last five matchups with the Eagles, per OddsShark. Philadelphia swept the season series with Washington in each of the last two years, winning each contest by at least 10 points.

Philadelphia might be close to a 9.5-point favorite when they play on the road against Washington later this season. Don’t miss the chance to take the Eagles as single-digit favorites in Week 1.
