An angry crowd ran amok at a New Year's Eve party in the south Indian city of Hyderabad and set the venue on fire after the organizers ran short of alcohol.

Some revelers set the furniture at the venue on fire with whatever little alcohol was left, broke music equipment and attacked the DJ by hurling beer bottles at him within one hour of the party starting.

They also attacked the organizers, who immediately fled as they were unable to handle the unruly crowd. Police officials arrested six people, including three organizers, local daily the Times Of India reported.

“The event was held at Siddhivinayak grounds in Madhapur on Monday night. The tickets were priced at Rs.500 ($7), Rs.1,500 ($21) and Rs.2,500 ($35). Those who had purchased tickets at Rs.2,500 ($35) were promised unlimited alcohol and food for the entire night. But within one hour of the party starting, the organizers ran out of alcohol and this got the crowd angry,” police said, The News Minute reported.

While the music organizers informed police the crowd damaged equipment worth Rs. 45 lakh ($63,915), the sound organizers filed a police complaint for incurring losses at the venue.

“Meanwhile, we have also received complaints from customers that they were attacked by the organizers when they questioned them about the alcohol shortage. As of now, we have registered complaints against three organizers for breach of trust, cheating, mischief and causing damage to property and disobeying law and order. The case is under investigation and we will make arrests soon,” an officer said.

In another act of violence on the same day, a woman was critically injured after being shot at a New Year’s party in New Delhi. The woman’s husband filed a police complaint and the suspect is absconding.
