In a CCTV footage recorded Sunday at Costcutter, a convenience store in Northwood, London, a female shop assistant is seen fending off an attack from a knife-wielding robber.

The incident, as seen in a two and half minute video clip, took place around 5:23 p.m. local time (12:23 p.m. EST), when two masked robbers entered the store, demanding cash, Stoke Sentinel reported.

While one of the robbers guarded the door, the other, carrying an eight-inch knife, approached Kez Bullock, 39, who was managing the shop alone at the time.

The knife-wielding thief walked down the aisle, brandishing his weapon, and reached across the cash register to threaten Bullock, who was sitting behind the counter. The video showed that as the thief lunged at Bullock with his knife, she calmly slapped away his hand and proceeded to open the cash counter.

She is then seen taking out a few bucks and putting them inside the plastic bag the robber had brought. The robber also forced Bullock to fill the bag with tobacco and cigarettes before the duo fled the scene.

The shop owner, Harjinder Grewal, 39, who has been running the store for the last 11 years, commended the heroism of the female assistant.

“Somehow she managed to slap his arm away as he came at her with the knife,” Grewal said, Independent reported. “She reacted instinctively and it probably saved her life. The worker was shocked. She did try to press the panic alarm but was too terrified.”

Grewal confirmed later to the police that 450 pounds (around $600) was stolen by the robbers, along with cigarettes and tobacco. The shop owner has allowed the footage of the robbers to be circulated on social media, in order to help the Staffordshire police catch the people responsible for the crime. The robbers have been described as six-feet-tall, lean-built, white men wearing navy blue bandanas around their faces.

A police spokesman added: “The first man was wearing a North Face black jacket with a stain on the right forearm, blue Nike gloves and black Nike trainers with white soles. The second man wore a light grey hooded top with a motif on the chest, dark blue jeans and dark footwear. He had also scrunched up the sleeves to cover his hands during the robbery.”
