Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly has just been cast to star in TNT’s upcoming series, “Snowpiercer,” as Melanie Cavill.

According to Deadline, Connelly will be teaming up with “Hamilton” star Daveed Diggs for the project. “Snowpiercer” centers on the remnants of humanity, seven years after the world turned into a frozen wasteland. Those who are left in the world will tackle issues of survival, social injustice and politics while on board a perpetually moving train that circles the globe.

Connelly’s character, Melanie, is a first class passenger who works as the voice of the train. She is responsible for making announcements through the PA system. Unlike the other people who are in the same class, Melanie is fascinated by those who belong in the lower class, according to TV Line.

Diggs, on the other hand, will play the role of Layton Well, a prisoner who becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend the lives of the people on the train.

TNT has already ordered a pilot for “Snowpiercer,” and it is written by Josh Friedman. The premiere episode will be directed by Scott Derrickson.

According to Deadline, it is very rare for Connelly to star in a series such as “Snowpiercer” since the actress has been more involved in features. She previously starred in “Once Upon A Time in America,” “Labyrinth” and “Phenomena.” For television, the actress starred in FOX’s shortlived series “The $treet” and TNT’s 1992 hit, “The Heart and Justice.”

Connelly also starred in “A Beautiful Mind,” and her role as Alicia Nash earned her Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. She also teamed up with actor Ewan McGregor in “American Pastoral,” and the project marked McGregor’s directorial debut.

Other than “Snowpiercer,” Connelly is also set to appear in the firefighter drama, “Granite Mountain.” She will be working with Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin in the project. She will also be part of “Alita: Battle Angel,” starring Michelle Rodriguez, Christoph Waltz and Mahershala Ali.

As of late, the release date for “Snowpiercer” hasn’t been announced by TNT.
