Chris Evans returned to TV with a new limited series, “Defending Jacob,” but fans may have realized that they can’t binge-watch it the way they might want to. Though the first three episodes were released Friday for the premiere, the rest of the season will follow a slower release schedule.

“Defending Jacob” episode 4 will release Friday, May 1 on Apple TV+. The rest of the eight episodes will come out one by one each Friday until the “Defending Jacob” finale drops on Friday, May 29.

The series follows Chris Evans as Andy Barber, an assistant district attorney who investigates the murder of a local teen. The victim turns out to be classmates with Andy’s son, Jacob (Jaeden Martell), who soon becomes the prime suspect. Based on William Landay’s 2012 novel of the same name, “Defending Jacob” examines how far people are willing to go for their family.

The series also stars Michelle Dockery, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, Betty Gabriel and Sakina Jaffrey.

The drama is definitely different from Chris Evans’ iconic role as Captain America in the Marvel movies (he hung up his shield one year ago in "Avengers: Endgame"), but he said he was happy to play a father for the first time.

“I loved it. I got to think about my relationship with my dad,” Evans told USA Today. “And it's actually really pleasant to think about the lengths you're willing to go to protect your kid, and how that love is so unconditional and maybe a little blinding at times. It's this weird double-edged sword to explore a love that deep, but it's also unsettling to realize how far that can make you go and what you're willing to compromise to preserve that perspective.”

“Defending Jacob” airs Fridays on Apple TV+.
