Chadwick Boseman married his longtime love, Taylor Simone Ledward, before he succumbed to cancer on Friday, the actor's family confirmed.

Boseman's family shared that the "Black Panther" star quietly wed Ledward in the final months of his life in the statement they posted on social media announcing the actor's passing. Boseman died at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

"He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side," Boseman's family wrote on Instagram.

Boseman and Ledward, a trained singer, were first spotted together in 2015 at the Los Angeles International Airport, shortly after she graduated from California State Polytechnic University Pomona in 2014. There, Ledward majored in music industry studies and served as the lead singer of the school's jazz band.

Boseman and Ledward's families were supportive of their relationship.

"They respect each other," Ledward's grandmother told InTouch Weekly of the couple in 2018. "She's very happy, and he is, too."

The outlet noted that Boseman referred to a "lady" in his life, but at the time, the notoriously private actor didn't name her.

Aside from Ledward's grandmother, her sister also confirmed their romance while responding to a post on Instagram of Boseman with his "Black Panther" co-star Lupita Nyong'o.

"I wish they were a real couple. They look so cute together," one person had commented on the post.

In response, Ledward's sister wrote, "His real life queen is gorgeous, and together they embody true love. Not to mention, they would make some beautiful babies!"

Ledward and Boseman had been photographed several times over the years at Hollywood events and NBA games. The couple made their red carpet debut in January last year at the Screen Actors Guild Awards when Boseman was nominated for "Black Panther."

Boseman also brought his lady love as his date when he attended the 50th NAACP Image Awards in March of that year. In a rare moment, Boseman and his partner engaged in some PDA when he kissed her before accepting his award for outstanding actor in a motion picture for his superhero role.

"Simone, you’re with me every day. I have to acknowledge you right now. Love you," Boseman said in his acceptance speech.

"I love you," Ledward mouthed back.

Boseman and Ledward got engaged in October last year, Page Six reported. Their last public appearance together was in February at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago.

Boseman’s "Avengers" and "Black Panther" co-stars are also mourning his death. Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and more celebrities, along with millions of fans across the globe, paid tribute to Boseman after his passing.
