KEY POINTS

  • ONE Championship will be making their U.S. debut on May 5th
  • It would make sense to put Two-division champion and fan-favorite Aung La N Sang on the card
  • Aung La N Sang has expressed his willingness to fight anyone

On May 5th, ONE Championship will make its maiden voyage into the United States for its first-ever show on American soil.

ONE Fight Night 10 will take place at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, which will be headlined by a ONE flyweight championship trilogy bout between reigning and defending kingpin Demetrious Johnson and arch-nemesis Adriano Moraes.

With the most important card in the promotion's history just mere months away, fans are still waiting on ONE Championship to announce the rest of the matches on the card.

Perhaps one of the fighters who make the most sense to add would be none other than former two-division ONE champion Aung La N Sang.

Myanmar's mixed martial arts icon has won back-to-back bouts in dominant fashion and is knocking on the door at another shot at the ONE middleweight championship.

The ex-middleweight and light heavyweight titleholder has shown his willingness to fight anyone that the promotion puts in front of him.

With him taking virtually no damage in his last fight against Gilberto Galvao at ONE Fight Night 6 earlier this month, it's likely that "The Burmese Python" will be ready and raring to go by May if ONE Championship does call on his number.

What's more is that Aung La N Sang is basically a national hero in Myanmar, which means that Burmese fans will tune in or even show up in person every time he steps inside the ONE Championship circle.

"I know there's a card in Denver, that will be cool. And my friends and I will show up in any city in the world," Aung La N Sang said. "We have 60 million Burmese in the world, they're going to show up no matter which city it is."

While Aung La N Sang knows that another crack at the middleweight crown is within reach, he isn't banking on reigning champion Reinier de Ridder being ready to defend the title anytime soon.

De Ridder, after all, suffered a one-sided beating at the hands of Anatoly Malykhin last December to surrender the ONE light heavyweight title.

"I'm sure de Ridder's going to need some time off, so it's okay. I wanna stay active," Aung La N Sang stated.

For him, it's all about continuously improving as an MMA fighter.

"I want to keep improving as a mixed martial artist and fill in some of my holes. And just keep being a better mixed martial artist and also just keep putting on exciting shows for the fans. That to me is very important. I want to see exciting bouts. Both as a fan and competitor of the sport, I want to put on great shows for the fans as well," Aung La N Sang expressed.

It remains to be seen whether Aung La N Sang makes it into the organization's highly-antcipated extravaganza in the U.S., but it would make a lot of sense for ONE Championship to do so.
