Prince William was previously rumored to have cheated on Kate Middleton with Rose Hanbury. Even though the claims were nothing more than just speculations, the royal couple still didn’t file a lawsuit against the British publications that released the story.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans shared their thoughts on why they think the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have stayed mum over the rumors until it completely died down.

Jules Gillespie, an instructor, said that members of the royal family don’t like filing lawsuits.

“It would be an all-consuming activity because of desperate throbbers wanting their day in court. So, the royals just ignore them. If they did ‘file a suit,’ what do you think the chances of Muppets bleating ‘there’s no smoke without fire’ would be, thinking that such statements are the epitome of the crushing grip of reason?” she said.

Chris Hawkes, a supporter of constitutional monarchy, said that there was no way for Prince William and Middleton to file a lawsuit over the scandal. He also said that the British publications shouldn’t be blamed for the story because they weren’t the ones who published it.

“And partly because haters gonna hate. Most of the time, the Royal Family has the dignity not to get involved. Why would you want to give even the semblance of credence to such obvious lies? When they do, it is serious,” he said.

Meanwhile, some royal fans are convinced that the rumors about Prince William having an affair with Hanbury were true. An anonymous respondent told Quora that the rumors were silenced shortly after it first came to light.

“It only resurfaces in online comments, in social media and forums on personal accounts and maybe in the US, but never in the UK. To me it’s a sign that the royal PR is making huge efforts to cover it, something they would not do if the accusation were ridiculous and unfounded,” the royal fan said.
