Centerville, Utah -- A wildfire spurred by windy conditions in the foothills east of Centerville has caused more than 89 families to evacuate their homes in the late hours of July 3.

Firefighting units from throughout Davis county including Bountiful, North Salt Lake, Woods Cross, and Farmington are carrying out control operations to contain what has been called the Deuel Creek Fire, KSLTV reported.

Salt Lake Police arrived at the location and are investigating the cause of the fire that started around 11 p.m. local time and spread swiftly to surrounding regions due to gusty winds.

Utah Fire Info shared updates on the situation on Twitter. "The #DeuelCreekFire started the night of July 3 and is burning in the foothills east of Centerville. Ten homes currently evacuated. The cause is under investigation. Officials are evaluating more evacuations as the fire spreads in windy conditions," the first tweet read.

The destruction had spread across acres according to the follow-up update which read, "More evacuations on the #DeuelCreekFire 89 homes now evacuated and more possible. Due estimated at 20-50 acres spreading uphill and driven by southwest winds. Fire departments from throughout Davis County on scene."

Centerville Police Department tweeted an update regarding the evacuation center. "The area north of Parrish Ln and east of 600 E should be ready to evacuate if needed. Evacuation contact location is 950 N Main," read the tweet. No damage to homes has been reported yet.

Many on Twitter blamed the July 4 fireworks for the spreading fire. "Large wildfire near Centerville UT, *likely* caused by fireworks. This is exactly the reason why the NPS doesn't want to permit fireworks at Mount Rushmore, because something like this is the possible outcome," a tweet read.

"Video from my family up in Centerville. Huge fire. Stop lighting fireworks. Leave it to the pros," shared another user.

"Folks! We may (or may not) be lucky that it rained recently in #STL. In #Centerville, #Utah they are not so lucky. In the last 90 minutes #Fireworks may have started a #Wildfire. Firefighters are on the scene; this is 15 minutes from #SaltLakeCity," tweeted another.
