  • John Cena's Hollywood projects have kept him busy
  • He recently returned to WWE to celebrate his two decades in the company
  • SummerSlam event is set to take place on July 30

Some new details have emerged amid reports that John Cena will not participate in the upcoming SummerSlam 2022 event.

Last month when Cena returned to WWE to celebrate his two decades at the company, there were talks about him being involved in a fight at the SummerSlam, dubbed the "Biggest Party of the Summer." All signs pointed to an Austin Theory vs. Cena clash at SummerSlam after the former dropped some hints on social media.

However, on his WWE return, the 16-time champion had indicated that he wouldn't be wrestling anytime soon and he was not certain when he would be returning to the ring.

Further confirming Cena's absence at the SummerSlam 2022, which is scheduled to take place on July 30 at Nashville's Nissan Stadium, wrestling journalist Bryan Alvarez reported that the wrestler's film commitments will prevent him from attending The Biggest Party of the Summer.

"I can confirm that being filmed right now is Peacemaker 2 and John Cena is involved. He's working on 'Peacemaker 2' as we speak. I presume that's why there have been discussions of him doing SummerSlam but then he showed up on Raw to announce 'someday I'll be back, I don't know when, don't know where but I'll be back someday.' Apparently, he's filming Peacemaker and that's why he can't do SummerSlam," Alvarez said on the recent edition of "Wrestling Observer Live," according to Wrestling News Co.

Even though Cena cannot make it to SummerSlam, it is believed that the 45-year-old wrestler-turned-actor is in line for a match at WrestleMania 39, TJR Wrestling reported.

Meanwhile, the SummerSlam event is set to witness the Last Man Standing fight between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, which could also see the end of their legendary rivalry.

Ahead of the big fight, Reigns has reached a milestone as he completed 100 days as the Undisputed WWE and Universal Champion. The Tribal Chief unified the two titles at WrestleMania 38 in April. He has defended the title just once on WWE Live TV so far.
