Will Smith has shared an unplanned scene that happened on the sets of "Emancipation." He said a co-star spat on his face.

"As the years have gone on I've gotten more and more locked into these characters for longer periods of time," Smith recalled on the "Red Table Talk" show as his three kids – Willow, Jaden and Trey – listened to him.

He also explained why the movie was so important to him: "And it's just the weight of this story, the weight of these experiences — the quality of these actors. It was emotionally, it was physically, it was spiritually taxing."

During the filming of "Emancipation," one of the actors reportedly leaned toward Smith and spat on his face.

"One of the first days on set, there is a scene with one of the actors and he leans down in my face and says, 'You a cold one, ain't you?' and then he ad-libbed..." he said, imitating how his co-star spat on him. "I was like, 'Makeup!' No, but it was like ... I was like, Whoa, every actor on this set was taking it really, really seriously."

A sneak-peek into the latest episode of "Red Table Talk" was shared Tuesday on Facebook.

"For the first time, Will Smith takes over the Red Table with his 3 kids and reveals a shocking behind the scenes moment from the new film Emancipation," the caption read. "Tune in Wednesday for more with Will."

"Emancipation" was released in theatres on Dec. 2 and it started streaming on Apple TV+ on Dec. 9. The movie is based on the true story of a slave, named Peter, who runs away from a Louisiana plantation after being tortured by the owners.

Smith will be next featured in "The Council," "Fast and Loose" and the fourth installment of "Bad Boys," which is a popular action-comedy franchise.
