  • World War Z has been added as a free game at the Epic Games store
  • Fans have one week to download the game
  • World War Z offers cross-play between PC and Xbox One

Fans looking to play World War Z have one week to avail of the popular zombie shooter game for free.

As announced on Twitter, World War Z has been added to the list of popular titles that is now up for grabs at the Epic Games store. The promo starts Thursday, March 26, and will last until Thursday next week, April 2.

Once downloaded, players can keep WWZ without any restrictions. Previously, Figment and Tormentor x Punisher has also been announced as free games.

Released last year, World War Z is one of the more popular four-player co-op third-person shooter games out in the market. It has been largely praised for its shooting gameplay, visuals and story – although there have also been technical issues in the past.

The game, developed by Saber Interactive and published by Mad Dod Games, was an immediate hit upon its release – selling more than 320,000 copies in the Epic Games store alone during the first two weeks of its launch.

Across all platforms on PC, Xboc and PlayStation, it sold over 2 million units in its first month.

World War Z offers different missions and, according to their latest announcement, has an improved Hard Mode Z, new objectives, as well as weapons and perks.

For what it’s worth, the game also offers cross-play between Xbox One and PC right now – with cross-play on PlayStation 4 coming in a future update.

While it is surprising that Epic Games made World War Z free on its digital store where it had its biggest success, the news comes as a welcome development to players looking for new games to check amid the coronavirus quarantine all over the world.

Video gaming has seen a sudden surge in recent weeks as the world deals with the deadly COVID-19. Government and health organizations are advising people to stay home to prevent the spread of the virus, thereby keeping a lot of people busy with games.

With its cross-play function, WWZ should also be a big hit and should see an increase in gamers in the upcoming week.

For those who have purchased the game after February 13 (11 am EST), Epic Games is reportedly offering a refund.
