  • Angle shared why Lesnar ended up using his move at Wrestlemania 19
  • Health issues prevented Brett Hart from facing him Angle at Wrestlemania 20
  • Angle is still with the WWE as a backstage producer

Kurt Angle had quite a ride in the WWE with plenty of battles against legendary wrestlers. Among the WWE stars he faced include Brock Lesnar, someone he faced at Wrestlemania 19. A year after that, a classic clash would have ensued against Brett "The Hitman" Hart if things fell into place. Unfortunately, that never happened with medical considerations in play.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet of 411mania.com, the former WWE champion shared some interesting things on his Wrestlemania 19 and 20 performances. He faced Brock Lesnar for the WWE title in Seattle 2003, bowing to the Beast Incarnate in one classic match.

Angle narrated how Lesnar's shooting star press was his idea at the time. It was a move that the 51-year-old wrestler used when he was still in developmental although the execution of the maneuver was far from perfect. In fact, Lesnar came down on his head when he tried to execute it. Thankfully, Angle tried to make up by going for a cover to buy the 6-foot-3 wrestler time to recover. In the end, he had just enough left to go for his patented F-5 to win the match and the WWE title.

"So he did miss. But the cool thing about it is, that’s what people most remember about WrestleMania 19 is Brock missing the moonsault. So it was a great moment for him. I loved wrestling Brock, he was so physical just like me,” recalled Angle.

One year later, Angle would have faced one of the greatest WWE stars of all time - Brett Hart. Unfortunately, "The Hitman" begged off since he was coming off a stroke plus a lot of bad luck. In short, Hart wasn't coy to the idea and the match would have not lived up to the hype.

Instead, Angle faced the late Eddie Guerrero for the WWE championship. It was a classic storyline where both started out as friends after which a heel-turn (by Angle) ensued. Guerrero was fresh from winning the WWE title from Lesnar at No Way Out while Angle won a triple threat match that involved John Cena and the Big Show. Guerrero topped Angle at Wrestlemania XX after loosening his boot and finishing off the WWE Hall of Famer with a small package.

As for Angle, he was last seen as a guest referee last August in a match pitting Cedric Alexander against Drew McIntyre. He now serves as a full-time backstage producer for Monday Night Raw, PWInsider reported. As of this writing, there is no official word on whether he would consider another ring return.
