KEY POINTS

  • Shinsuke Nakamura's push is expected but may take time
  • Daniel Bryan remains the favorite to win the 2021 Royal Rumble
  • Nakamura could win his second Royal Rumble and surprise the WWE Universe

The WWE needs to find another name to build up and that could be in the person of Shinsuke Nakamura.

Since being bumped to the main roster, the "King of Strong Style" has been silent behind the scenes.

The 40-year-old has had success in tag team action with Cesaro although most know that Nakamura can be a good individual competitor.

He proved that when he took WWE NXT by storm–the main reason why he was elevated to the main WWE shows.

If the recent Gauntlet Match that the Japanese wrestler went through is any indication, it appears a big push is coming. By the looks of it, he will be the next WWE star who will get involved with the camp of Roman Reigns.

Nakamura is set to tangle with Jey Uso on the next episode of WWE Smackdown. This is in the aftermath of that Gauntlet Match that saw “The Artist” go through Rey Mysterio, King Corbin and Daniel Bryan before falling in a Reigns-marred finale with Adam Pearce.

That upcoming match with Jey Uso could be telling. It could add more flavor to what the creative team has in store for the "Tribal Chief" and the Universal title.

With reports of WWE CEO Vince McMahon wanting the creative team to give underutilized stars a push, Nakamura could be the guy getting that push.

Could Nakamura’s rise happen at the 2021 Royal Rumble?

The Japanese star is no stranger to the 30-man battle royale. Nakamura won the Royal Rumble in 2018–ironically eliminating Reigns. That booked him a match with AJ Styles are WrestleMania 34 but unfortunately lost.

But the thing here is that Nakamura and Reigns have a history that could be turned into a storyline arc. The WWE creative team could use that to insert the Japanese into the fray, yet another twist that could raise a howl.

Bill Goldberg was the original opponent most perceived for Reigns at WrestleMania 37. But most know how the script was flipped with the former heavyweight champion recently interrupted Drew McIntyre.

Bryan was suggested as the next likely opponent and that remains a possibility. Nakamura could be a pawn to spice things up moving forward.

The “Yes Man” is a 5/4 favorite to win the 30-man scramble on Jan. 31 with Nakamura deemed a long shot at 66/1.

For now, Nakamura will have to settle for Uso where new storylines are expected to unfold.
