The New York Yankees still haven’t landed Manny Machado like many around the league thought they might, but the team continues to made additions. According to multiple reports, New York agreed to terms with reliever Adam Ottavino Thursday.

Ottavino, 33, was one of the most sought-after pitchers on the market. He joins reliever Zach Britton, starting pitcher J.A. Happ, second baseman DJ LeMahieu and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki as the Yankees’ free-agent acquisitions in the 2018-2019 MLB offseason.

Britton and Happ will both return to New York after the team traded for them in July. Tulowitzki is expected to start the season at shortstop with Didi Gregorius set to miss the first few months because of Tommy John Surgery. LeMahieu could be used as a utility player for the Yankees.

New York is clearly planning for life without Machado by signing two infielders. While Tulowitzki shouldn’t prevent the Yankees from making another major move, the team has more than enough players that will fill roles around the diamond with Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres coming off stellar rookie campaigns.

The deal for Ottavino is reportedly worth $27 million over three years. Britton is guaranteed $39 million over three years with an option for a fourth year. Happ will make $17 million in both 2019 and 2020 with an option for 2021 at the same salary.

LeMahieu is guaranteed $24 million over two years. Tulowitzki is making the MLB minimum salary.

None of those contracts compare to what the Yankees would have to pay Machado. It might take $180 million at the very least to land the four-time All-Star, and he’s reportedly still looking to make well over $300 million.

The Yankees are considered to be an unlikely destination for Machado at this point, though that could change if the Philadelphia Phillies don’t make him an offer.

Sonny Gray remains on the trade block for the Yankees. Ottavino might very well turn out to be their last major signing before spring training begins.
