“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is expanding the team. Henry Simmons, who plays Mack, will be promoted to a series regular in Season 3.

Like the recently promoted Luke Mitchell, Simmons guest starred on the ABC drama throughout Season 2. Marvel announced that Simmons will be a regular cast member in the upcoming season, but details on Mack’s upcoming storyline are unknown. However, last season, he wasn’t getting along so well with Coulson (Clark Gregg).

Throughout “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, Mack made his distrust of Coulson clear. Even after S.H.I.E.L.D. 2.0 accepted Coulson as a leader, Mack quit the team. “He respects Coulson. And I think he genuinely likes Coulson,” Mack told TV Line. “But I think he just believes that Coulson is not the right man for the job. And listen, I can’t blame him, because like Mack said, Coulson was trying to find the answers to the alien blood inside him, and those side projects weren’t for S.H.I.E.L.D. They were his own personal thing.”

However, once Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) kidnapped by Ward (Brett Dalton), Mack unpacked his bags and agreed to stay. In the finale, after Bobbi was rescued, Coulson offered Mack a position in charge of alien artifacts. In the final moments of the episode, Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) was working near the Kree monolith when the object basically absorbed her. Since the stone is an alien artifact, it’s safe to say that Mack will be helping to find the biochemist.

Executive producer Jeff Bell confirmed that finding Simmons would be high on the whole team’s priority list. “I wouldn’t limit it to Fitz,” Bell explained to Entertainment Weekly. “Everyone will be very upset and concerned after they figure out what happened. I would suspect our team would not take this lightly and will do everything they can to figure out what happened.”

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 will return to ABC in the fall. Do you think Mack will be able to find Simmons? Sound off in the comments section below!
