Over the last few months, several discussions have been held about the next major update to the Android operating system – the Android 5.0 Lime Pie. Now, according to a report Monday, the much-anticipated upcoming Android version, which is expected to be announced at the upcoming Google IO, is on its way for a number of Samsung devices.

However, there’s a glitch. Citing an insider, a SamMobile report has said that Samsung will roll out Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean updates for a number of devices including the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note, but it will sadly be the final over-the-air (OTA) update for these devices.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note were launched with the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and after that they got the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update. The devices recently received the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Now, if the report is to be believed, they will stop at the version 4.2.2.

Here’s a list of Samsung devices that will receive the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update, but for the very last time:

- GT-I9080 – Galaxy Grand

- GT-I9082 – Galaxy Grand DUOS

When it comes to the yet-to-be-announced Android 5.0 Lime Pie firmware, the report has said that only five Samsung devices will receive the update. The devices that are likely to get the new firmware update are the newly launched Galaxy S4, S3, Galaxy Note 2, Note 8.0 and Note 10.1.

The insider has also told SamMobile that a number of mid-range Android devices of 2012 and 2013 will get a value pack update.

“The insider confirmed Google’s next version is expected to be a big update and Samsung will take some time to update their devices,” says the report.
