‘Riverdale’
Is Fred (Luke Perry) dead or alive in “Riverdale”? The CW

The “Archie” comic books may be different from the TV show “Riverdale” in terms of tone and storyline, but both are equally exciting and provide fans with a lot of twists and turns.

In the comic books written by Mark Waid, Betty was revealed to be clinging for dear life after getting into a three-car accident. The final installment in the three-part finale has yet to be released, and Waid spoke with Entertainment Weekly to tease whether or not Betty will make it out alive.

“This isn’t new. Serialized drama, especially in the comics, is all about perception of change. Archie, like Superman or Batman, is going to change but always revert, in some way, back to his iconic setup. It’s about the journey – the story. That’s what we’ve been saying since we announced the book. So, while Betty will face death, deal with the ramifications of this crash and while we show how her friends respond to the tragedy, I think it’s safe to say things will shake down and we’ll eventually get back to the status quo people have come to know,” he said.

Waid also clarified that this does not mean Betty will actually die or live. After all, things could change at the last minute. “Things swerve back and then change again. But it’s about the story and how we go from here to there,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, if Betty is in danger of being killed off in #22 of the “Archie” comics, Fred (Luke Perry) is also at risk of dying in “Riverdale” Season 2. In the finale for Season 1, Archie’s (KJ Apa) dad was shot by a masked man. It is unclear if Fred is the real target of the villain, but the scene ended with Archie cradling his dad in his arms.

Rumors that Fred will be killed in Season 2 were heightened after “Riverdale” cast member Madchen Amick posted a photo of the entire team via her Instagram accout. Unfortunately, Perry wasn’t in the snap. Amick revealed that the photo was taken from their first table read for Season 2, episodes 1 to 3.

“Riverdale” Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. EDT.
