Pop star Ariana Grande is reportedly being “seriously considered” to portray the role of Elphaba in the big screen adaptation of the musical “Wicked,” which is currently being handled by Universal Studios.

In a recent interview with Gay Times, the music composer of the iconic broadway, Stephen Schwartz, shared that he is “a massive fan” of the “Thank U, Next” hitmaker and would be really excited if Grande gets on board for the role.

“The ‘Wicked’ movie is not quite far enough along yet for us to really be talking about the specific casting, but obviously, everyone is very aware of the presence in the world of Ariana Grande and her extraordinary talent. We would be fools for her not to be being seriously considered,” Schwartz said.

But ultimately, the decision doesn’t rest with Schwartz.

“Stephen Daldry is our director and he will have a lot to say about the casting, as will Universal and the studio. But, as I say, let’s just say that all of us are very aware of Ariana Grande,” he said.

The 26-year-old singer has been quite vocal about her love for the musical “Wicked,” which tells the untold stories of the witches of Oz. In 2018, Grande even performed “The Wizard and I” on NBC’s Live Concert event celebrating the show’s fifteenth anniversary.

The exciting casting possibility has made Grande’s fans pretty excited and they are requesting the songstress to not let this opportunity go.

The “God Is A Woman” singer is currently riding high on the success of her new collaborative single “Don’t Call Me Angel.” The song sung by Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey has already been labeled “a massive hit” and is on its way to achieve an extraordinary record on Billboard Top 100.

Meanwhile, Grande is busy with her “Sweetener” World Tour which is set to conclude right before the end of the year. This could give her a chance to think about the “Wicked” movie and officially join the cast as soon as possible.

The musical play featured Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as the original Elphaba and Glinda.

Directed by Stephen Daldry, the movie adaptation is scheduled to hit theatres on Dec. 22, 2021.
