France believes the fall of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was a conspiracy alleging him of rape, which needs further explanation.

Fifty-seven percent French think that Strauss, the charismatic former finance minister was trapped in a plot set up by the political enemies. The votes rose to 70 percent when it came to the socialists.

The French people did not want it to be true, even more so in the case of Socialist sympathizers, Gerald Bronner, a Strasbourg University sociologist.

Benjamin Brafman, his defense lawyer, told the judge he believed the 'forensic evidence' was 'not consistent with forcible encounter'.

To prove the incredibility of the accusation, Strauss could claim for consent as a defense to accusations that he sexually assaulted a maid at the Sofitel Hotel in New York, ABA Journal reported.

According to the police, the maid knocked on Strauss-Kahn’s door and called out and then she used her master keycard to open the door, and left her work cart in the doorway, a typical safety practice in hotels. The police account says, when she entered to clean the bathroom Strauss-Kahn came out naked and tried to attack the maid shutting the hotel door when she tried to escape.

His counsel said that there should be a computer record of her using the key card and the time period for which the door remained open and then when it got actuated again to throw more light into the incident.
