The Four Black Women Who Won Miss Universe Title [PHOTOS]

Miss Angola 2011, Leila Lopes became the second black African woman and the fourth black woman in the world to win the Miss Universe title at the Miss Universe 2011 competition held at Sao Paulo in Brazil on Monday.

Lopes won the Miss Universe 2011 contest, beating contestants from 89 countries. She is also the first ever from her home country Angola, to get crowned “Miss Universe.”

Mpule Kwelagobe, Miss Botswana, was crowned by Wendy Fitzwilliam, Miss Universe 1998, and was the first black African and third black woman in the world to win Miss Universe title in 1999. She was also the first delegate from the country of Botswana.

Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad & Tobago was the second black woman to win Miss Universe contest in 1998, followed by Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana in 1999.

Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad & Tobago became the first woman of African descent and also the first black woman to be crowned Miss Universe, in 1977.
