Arch West, the retired Frito-Lay marketing executive who created Doritos chip snack, died in Dallas at the age of 97.

West's family issued a statement noting that he died Tuesday at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

The family has scheduled a graveside service to be held on Oct. 1.

West's daughter Jana Hacker told The Dallas Morning News that the family has plans on toss Doritos chips in before they put the dirt over the urn.

According to The Associated Press, West was a marketing vice president for the Dallas-based Frito-Lay company in 1961. It was while West was on a family vacation near San Diego, he found a snack shack selling fried tortilla chips.
