Gadhafi to be Buried Secretly; Rumors Run High

Libyan authorities will secretly bury the body of dictator Moammar Gadhafi, reports the BBC.

According to the latest report, the Libyan government still has to decide on the place and process of burial but rumors are abuzz of a secret burial for Gadhafi.

Meanwhile, the Misrata Military Council, which now holds the body, claims he was not shot. The statement contradicts the earlier statement given by acting Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril about Gadhafi's capture and death in Sirte.

According to Jibril, Gadhafi was shot in the head during a crossfire between loyalists and revolutionary fighters but the Misrata militia said he was fatally wounded in his head.

A spokesman for the Misrata Military Council, Fathi Bashagha, told ABC News He (was) shot before he was caught, because he (was) fighting. And I mean he was fighting with his soldiers along with a lot of shelling from everywhere.

Gadhafi Dead; Civil War to End Soon

With the end of Gadhafi, the civil war of the past eight months should soon end. NATO will also declare an end of its Libya campaign.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said, I think we can say that the military operation is finished, that the whole of Libyan territory is under the control of the National Transitional Council and that, subject to a few transitory measures in the week to come, the NATO operation has arrived at its end, reports BBC.

Mixed Reactions from Around the Globe

The brutal death of Gadhafi evoked various contradictory responses from around the world. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Gadhafi's death will usher in a new era for Libyans, while Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said, They murdered him.

The Libyan authorities, however, denied the rumors of executing Gadhafi.

We look forward to the announcement of the country's liberation, the quick formation of an interim government, and a stable transition to Libya's first free and fair elections.
