Assange Loses Extradition Bid, to Face Sex Charges in Sweden

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange lost his extradition bid at the High Court in London Wednesday morning. He will be extradited from Britain to Sweden to face charges in a sex case.

Two judges at the High Court, Lord Justice Thomas and Justice Ouseley, decided to uphold a court ruling in favor of the extradition.

Swedish authorities want the WikiLeaks founder to face allegations of sexual molestation, unlawful coercion and rape. Two WikiLeaks volunteers accused Assange of sexual abuse in Stockholm in August 2010.

Assange can appeal to the Supreme Court against the recent court ruling in the next 14 days.

Earlier, the Belmarsh Magistrate's court had ruled in February that Assange be extradited to Sweden to face the charges.

Assange has been under house arrest for nearly a year as he waited to find out the results. A Free Assange rally is planned for Wednesday outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London.
