A 34-year-old woman appeared in a Croydon Magistrate's Court Tuesday after a video, which showed her abusing fellow passengers on a south London tram, was posted on YouTube.

Emma West of New Addington, a mother of two, was arrested by the British Transport Police for a racially aggravated offense. She allegedly told the passengers they were not British. She did not enter a plea to the charge.

Wearing jeans and a white and pink Adidas tracksuit top, West appeared distressed in the court. She spoke only to confirm her name and address.

The court heard that West had been suffering from depression since she was 18, receiving treatment at facilities in Purley and West Croydon, Your Local Guardian reported.

A British Transport Police spokesman told Metro News: "I can confirm that Emma West (34) of New Addington was charged with Racially Aggravated Section 4a on Monday."

"She has been remanded in custody for a week and psychiatric reports will be completed in due course. She is due to appear again on Tuesday, December 6."

"This is in relation to an incident onboard a Croydon Tramlink."

The two-minute clip, titled 'My Tram Experience,' has been viewed more than 2 million times since it was uploaded on YouTube Sunday. The video showed a woman sitting with a child on her lap, abusing other passengers.

Police said the video was an incident on the Croydon-to-Wimbledon Tramlink route and has asked YouTube to remove the video.
