In 2011, Samsung only had one 10.1-inch tablet in its Android tablet lineup. Now after MWC 2012, the Korean tech giant has released not just one, but two 10.1-inch tablets – Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 - which will shortly be available in the market. Samsung has been comparing its new tablets with Apple’s new iPad and iPad 2. But, let’s forget the iPad for a moment and compare the two Samsung heavyweights – Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Which of them come up tops?

Processor and Memory

Galaxy Note 10.1 is powered by dual-core 1.4 GHz CPU. The processor module of Galaxy Note 10.1 is yet unknown. But it can be assumed to be Cortex A9 as Galaxy Note phone is equipped with dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex A9 CPU. The clock frequency is same so the module is also expected to be unchanged. Turning to Galaxy Tab 2, it has a dual-core 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor. There is 1GB of RAM in both these devices to muscle up the performance.

Camera

Galaxy Note 10.1 sports 3.15-megapixel rear snapper with LED flash support. It can record 1080p videos at 30fps. There is also a secondary 2-megapixel camera in Galaxy Note. On the other hand, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 also has the same 3.15-megapixel camera with LED flash. The front-facing VGA camera in Tab 2 is only point of difference in camera department of both these tablets.

Interface

Both these tablets give the latest glimpse of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and have the same TouchWiz UI overlay. However, Galaxy Note 10.1 has a little advantage over Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as it has the S-Pen stylus. The screen/S-Pen of Galaxy Note is 10 times more accuracy – with 255 levels of pressure sensitivity - than a normal capacitive screen. As a result, it is perfect for note taking and precise image editing operations.

Storage memory

Galaxy Note 10.1 comes in three models with internal storage options of 16/32/64GB. But we miss 64GB internal storage feature in Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. However, it supports external microSD up to 32GB. Galaxy Note also features expandable memory option.

Galaxy Note 10.1 is thinner than Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 by a slight .8mm margin. Except this, these MWC gems are almost same with same form factor, same 7000 mAh battery and connectivity features. Galaxy Tab 2 is just a mere update to the original Galaxy Tab. But, Galaxy Note 10.1 is something fresh. Also it outdoes Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in many features. Samsung has not yet released both these tablets in the market and their prices are unknown, but looking at their feature, the scales tip in favor of Galaxy Note 10.1.
