The Rattler, a wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio that was the world's largest when the park opened in 1992, will thrill its last riders on Aug. 5, the theme park announced Tuesday.

Fans of the Rattler are lamenting its final days as Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio used the announcement to encourage prospective park-goers to experience the wooden roller coaster for one last time.

Come out and experience the classic wooden coaster through nearly a mile of high-speed turns, looping twists and breathtaking drops as the Ratter prepares for its last riders! Six Flags Fiesta Texas said on its website. The Rattler debuted at Fiesta Texas when the park opened in 1992, heralding it then as the only coaster at the park and delighting guests with a distinctive wooden coaster experience. Become part of Fiesta Texas history and ride the Rattler again before it slithers away on Sunday, August 5.

The Rattler tops speeds of 65 m.p.h. and provides thrills for 2 minutes and 26 seconds. The coaster is 5,080 feet long and is 108 feet tall at its highest point.

When it debuted in 1992, the Rattler was the world's tallest and fastest coaster, according to ultimaterollercoaster.com. The ride also had the largest drop at 166 feet.

Among the coaster's notable features are its 900-degree double helix and a tunnel that riders go through.

It's unclear whether Six Flags Fiesta Texas plans to replace the Rattler with another coaster or ride, according to the Associated Press. The theme park also did not give a reason why the wooden roller coaster's time is coming to an end, the AP reported.

News of the Rattler's planned demise evoked Twitter users to express their sadness that the wooden roller coaster will be no more. Rattler was a trending topic on the micro-blogging site in the San Antonio area Tuesday.
