Parents of young children, take notice.

New Hampshire organic food company Stonyfield issued a voluntary recall for some of its yogurt products on Friday after a possible coliform contamination was discovered. According to a statement from the company, a total of 188 4 oz. 6-packs of YoBaby Pear/Peach flavored yogurts, targeted for children, were recalled.

The recalled items may have been contaminated with coliform, which the Food Poisoning Bulletin says indicates the possible use of unsanitary water or fecal contamination.

Stonyfield said in the statement that it had not received any complaints or word of any illness related to the recalled products, and it called the voluntary recall a “precautionary step.”

“The health and safety of the people who eat our products are at the forefront of every step we take in our yogurt-making process," Stonyfield CEO Esteve Torrens said in the statement. "This is especially true with the products we make specifically for babies and children. That's why, when we discovered that there was a possibility of products contaminated with coliform, we immediately took action."

The recalled products, which have the code date of June 5, 2014, all have the UPC number 052159701161. According to the statement, "these products could only have been purchased on or after April 23, 2014."

A total of 40 Super Target, P-Fresh and GM stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, as well as 82 Wal-Mart locations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, are known to have sold the potentially contaminated products.

Customers affected by the recall are advised to return both open and unopened recalled items to the stores from where they were purchased to receive a full refund.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said customers can get more information by calling Stonyfield Customer Service at 1-800-PRO-COWS (1-800-776-2697) Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT. Stonyfield can also be reached by email at crelations@Stonyfield.com.
