“Bates Motel” executive producer Carlton Cuse and series star Nestor Carbonell were both impressed by Rihanna’s work ethic while filming her part as Marion Crane in Season 5 of the A&E series.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Cuse said that Rihanna had lot of scenes to shoot for a very limited time, but they didn’t hear any complaints about it from the pop star.
“We were trying to shoot an amazing amount of work to fully develop [her] character, and it takes a lot of time to film that,” Cuse said. “People were like, ‘You should temper your expectations. You should cut the amount of pages she has to shoot.’ We didn’t. [But] she showed up and she worked her [butt] off.”
“She was fully committed,” continued Cuse of the “Work” hitmaker. “Even before she would come on set, she had to go through a couple of hours of makeup to cover her tattoos. She worked incredibly long days. The charisma was something I knew about and expected because that’s just evident about her. The thing that really impressed me was her work ethic. She had to work incredibly hard in a short amount of time so she could get back to her tour.”
Carbonell, who directed Rihanna’s debut episode in the “Psycho” prequel series, also talked about Rihanna’s admirable work ethic in an interview with WWD.
“My gosh, she’s so hardworking,” said Carbonell, who plays Alex on the show. “In five days alone, she had the monstrous task of doing, I think, 35 pages and working with multiple directors. It was a tall order and boy, did she come to the party.”
Rihanna makes her debut episode as Marion Crane in tonight’s Season 5, episode 5 of “Bates Motel.” She also appears in next week’s episode, titled “Marion.”
“Bates Motel” airs every Monday at 10 p.m. EST on A&E.
