Update:

The wait is over!

On Thursday (August 22), Warner Bros announced in a statement that Batman would be played by actor Ben Affleck in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel.

"Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder's as-yet-untitled project — bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director's vision of their universe, which he established in Man of Steel," said the statement.

The news comes as a suprise to some who are anxiously anticipating the still unnamed film which feature the two superheros at odds. But Afleck's name was mentioned for the role along with a handful of other well known Hollywood actors.

Talk continues to rage about which actor should play the role of the Dark Knight in the highly anticipated "Batman vs. Superman" film. But according to a recent casting rumor, the discussion could be coming to a close within the next 30 days.

Latino Review's founder, "El Mayimbe," hinted at a new possibility in a post to Twitter, saying the film's Batman could be announced "in less than 30 days."

It is already known that "Man of Steel" actor Henry Cavill will be reprising his role as Superman. But many are questioning when the new Bruce Wayne will officially be revealed.

It seems like a possible stretch to have the new Batman actor announced within the coming few weeks, especially considering that the casting buzz has been providing a lot of publicity for the film, which was announced this month. Plus, auditions for the role won't begin until next month, according to Entertainment Wise, drawing more skepticism about the rumor.

News of the film broke at this year's San Diego Comic Con. Since then, a host of actors have been mentioned as possibilities to take the Batman role, and they include Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans and Scott Adkins.

Christian Bale has also been thrown into the casting mix, with a rumor swirling that he was offered a multimillion dollar contract to return as the Dark Knight. But after repeatedly stressing he has no interest in taking on the role again, he seems like the least likely candidate to sport the Batsuit in the new film.
