Activision has revealed that “Call of Duty: Black Ops III” is getting the “Zombies Chronicles” DLC for $29.99, which is twice more than what a regular map pack costs. The upcoming map pack is set to arrive for the PlayStation 4 on May 16.

“Zombies Chronicles” will include eight Zombies maps from previous entries of the “Call of Duty: Black Ops” continuity; three from “World at War,” four from “Black Ops” and one from“Black Ops II.” All the maps have been remastered in full HD with current-generation visuals and enhanced environment and character models.

“‘Zombies Chronicles’ is really about the community that made Zombies what it has become today,” Treyarch co-studio head Jason Blundell said. “Together, we’ve been slaying the undead for nearly ten years, across different game consoles, and ‘Zombies Chronicles’ is really about bringing all of those fans together.”

As part of its official announcement, Activision also released a story trailer for the upcoming expansion.

“Zombies Chronicles” also explores the origins of the Zombies storyline that directly leads to the events of “Black Ops III.” Activision and Treyarch have also published an official timeline, so fans know the complete narrative of the Zombies series.

“Zombies Chronicles” for “Call of Duty: Black Ops III” arrives for the PS4 on May 16, but Activision hasn’t revealed the release date for the Xbox One and the PC platforms. It’s being speculated that gamers on the Xbox One and the PC will get the DLC on June 15. “Call of Duty” digital content for the Xbox One and the PC always arrives 30 days after its been released for the PS4. Activision says that it will announce an official release date for other platforms at a later date.

“Zombies Chronicles” also includes bonus content which will be available on all platforms. Everyone who purchases the DLC will get 20 vials of Liquid Divinium, two all-new Whimsical GobbleGums and an Exclusive Zombies Pack-A-Punch weapon camo.

Players on the PS4 who pre-order the DLC will also get an exclusive “Zombies Chronicles” dynamic theme. Starting on May 16, Activision and Treyarch will also be holding an eight-day event called "8 Days of the Undead" for all platforms where players can earn double XP and other in-game rewards while playing Zombies mode on “Call of Duty: Black ops III.”

The release of “Zombies Chronicles” DLC for “Black Ops III” is seen as a bit unusual. DLC support for most “Call of Duty” games typically ends when the next game in the franchise is released. “Black Ops III” was first released 18 months ago, while the latest installment in the franchise, “Infinite Warfare,” was released this past fall, as pointed out by GameSpot.

Developer Treyarch did hint last year that it might release additional content for “Black ops III” if there was sustained interest in the game. “ …as long as they continue playing our game, we’re going to continue to support it in the same way. We can look forward to another healthy and fun year of updates in 2017,” Treyarch co-studio head Dan Bunting said back in December.
