Lindsay and Halstead’s relationship will be strengthened in “Chicago P.D.” Season 4. Matt Dinerstein/NBC

NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” is upping the romance in Season 4. Ever since the show’s inception, detectives Jay Halstead and Erin Lindsay have had more or less a rocky romance. However, that is all set to change when the couple move-in together in the upcoming season.

Given the fact that Lindsay (Sophia Bush) knows that Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) killed his son’s murderer, she will struggle between protecting him and saving herself from being charged with accessory to murder. This conflict will lead the detective to lean on her boyfriend for support and comfort.

Furthermore, “Chicago P.D.” Season 4 will explore the couple’s past. “There won’t be a designated storyline where they’re [Halstead and Lindsay are] off on a road trip,” the NBC series’ showrunner Matt Olmstead told TVLine, “but we want to dig a little bit more into [their respective backstories] as it relates to both of them. That’s a focus for us this year.”

Previously, the police drama had introduced Lindsay’s mother. In the upcoming season, her father will make an appearance which will give fans a better insight into her past. Hopefully, this will also bring Lindsay closer to Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer).

The Season 4 premiere will see Commander Crowley (Barbara Eve Harris) suspect Voight and Lindsay’s involvement in Justin’s case. She believes that the former may have killed his son’s murderer but lacks the evidence to prove it. While walking on a tight rope between protecting her mentor and saving herself from an investigation, Lindsay will often seek advice from her live-in boyfriend.

It seems like Season 4 will be a good one for Linstead!

The NBC series is also introducing a new partner for Burgess (Marina Squerciati) named Julie Tay (Li Jun Li). The two will quickly bond during their first call.

“Chicago P.D.” Season 4 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
