“Doctor Who” will welcome The Master, a.k.a. Missy, back to the TARDIS in Season 9. Whovians were shocked in the Season 8 finale when The Master returned to wreak havoc on the Doctor (Peter Capaldi). The Master had a new, female body this time and called herself Missy (Michelle Gomez). She was trying to control an army of Cybermen. Of course, the villain was defeated and seemed to disintegrate at the end of the Season 8 finale. Disintegration usually implies death, right? Not for “Doctor Who” villains, apparently. Missy will return in Season 9 alongside Capaldi.

Fans might not be too shocked that Missy has the ability to return. After all, Time Lords have the ability to regenerate new bodies. Plus, showrunner Steven Moffat hinted at the idea in November during an interview in “Doctor Who Extra.”

“Supervillains don’t die, do they?” Moffat noted. “So I wouldn’t trust anything about that character’s ability to lie down and stop breathing.”

Missy will return in the “Doctor Who” Season 9 premiere. “Everybody hide - Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect,” Moffat stated in a press release.

Gomez seems thrilled to reprise her villainous role. “Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I'm delighted to be putting my lippie back on. I'm positively dying to see The Doctor again!” Gomez added.

Fans have to wonder how Missy kept her body after her it looked like she died in the Season 8 finale. However, it wouldn’t be the first time a Time Lord skipped a real regeneration. When the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) was injured at the end of Season 4, he regenerated into two Doctors with the same face (but one was human).

“Doctor Who,” as usual, is keeping all plot details top secret. However, Gomez may have dropped a hint about a possibly biblical storyline in a new video announcing her return. “I can’t remember who -- who ate the apple? Was it Adam or was it Eve? I don’t know,” Gomez said as she bit into a juicy red apple. “Or was it the snake who was a bit evil?”

She continued eating her apple and said she was happy to be back. Is Missy considered the snake in the Garden of Eden? It’s unclear, but she was definitely wearing a vortex manipulator on her wrist. Whovians will remember that the accessory was a favorite of Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), and it allows users to travel time and space.
