Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq:NFLX) and Dreamworks Animation Skg Inc. (Nasdaq:DWA) announced a multiyear deal Monday for originally produced Dreamworks shows available to Netflix subscribers.

The companies did not disclose the financial details of the deal.

The animation studio will produce more than 300 hours of episodic programming based on characters from its "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Trolls" films. Dreamworks will also provide Netflix with children's content from its Classic Media library, which includes older shows Casper the Friendly Ghost, Lassie, She-Ra and Mr. Magoo.

The first series, to debut exclusively on Netflix, is expected to launch in 2014, the companies said in a statement. DreamWorks is already producing Netflix's first original kids' show based on its summer movie "Turbo."

For Netflix the new deal represents the streaming video company's first agreement for multiple new programs from a single provider. For Dreamworks this deal marks a significant expansion of the animation studio's television operation.

Dreamworks also announced that Netflix is replacing HBO as Dreamworks' premium cable partner.
