Zachery Tims may have died because of a suspected drug overdose, a police source told the New York Daily News.

Tims, a pastor from Florida and founder of the megachurch New Destiny Christian Center, was found dead in a room at the W Hotel in Times Square, New York City, on Friday. His body was found by a housekeeper and he was pronounced dead at the scene, CNN reported.

A small glassine envelope containing a white powder was allegedly found in Tims' pocket, the police source told the New York paper. That powder will be tested to determine if it's cocaine, heroin or any other drug.

The Daily News said police believe Tims was alone when he died because hotel staff had to break through the door's security bar, which can only be put in place from inside the room.

Another source told the paper that police are checking on Tims' whereabouts during his stay in New York, and his phone calls.

His death has shocked the 8,000-member church in Apopka, Fla.

"At this time, we do not have all the details concerning our pastor, Dr. Zachery Tims," read a sign posted Monday on the church's doors, CNN said. "We ask that you keep him and his family in your prayers."

Tims, a former drug addict, founded the Christian Center in 1996 with only six members. Tims kicked the habit when he got saved and called into ministry, according to the Web site.
