Ignition Entertainment’s “El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron” is getting a sequel. Find out more about the upcoming game below.

This week, Japanese video game magazine Famitsu disclosed that a spiritual successor to “El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron” is scheduled for release this summer. The upcoming game is said to be entitled “The Lost Child,” and it is being directed by the same director and character designer of its spiritual predecessor, Takeyasu Sawaki.

What Is “The Lost Child”?

Though information about the new game is scarce, we now know that the spiritual sequel is going to be a turn-based RPG instead of being an action game like “Ascension of the Metatron.” It follows the mythical concept of “El Shaddai,” and it will also feature the suave angel Lucifel, who is voiced by Ryota Takeuchi, according to Gematsu. Although it wasn’t mentioned, “The Lost Child” will not have Enoch as its protagonist.

Setting Of The Game

“The Lost Child” is set in modern-day Japan as stated in the Japanese magazine. To be specific, the present situation of Japan is not that pleasant due to an ongoing conflict of demons. Nothing else was mentioned about the setting. The teaser trailer shown on “The Lost Child’s” website does not give a proper glimpse of the game’s setting as well. But fans can expect more information to surface later this week.

Supported Consoles & Release

Kadokawa Games, the publisher of “The Lost Child,” is making it available for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita consoles. The game is scheduled for release this summer in Japan. On the official website of the game, it is stated there that fans can expect the spiritual sequel of “El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron” to arrive on May 29, which is next Monday. No word yet on the North American release of the game.

Other Details

Famitsu is releasing a new issue of its magazine on Thursday, May 25. Ahead of its release, the publication teased via its website and its Twitter account the spread of “The Lost Child.” The exclusive scoop will detail the storyline of the new game, introduce the characters and share the insights of Sawaki about his newest project.

The news about “The Lost Child” comes more than a week after Sawaki teased during the Tokyo Sandbox 2017 that he will be making a “major” announcement soon. Obviously, the spiritual successor is the major announcement he was referring to at the time. Sawaki acquired the “El Shaddai” IP from Ignition Entertainment back in 2013 — just two years after the game was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, as per PlayStationLifeStyle.

“El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron” Explained

For those not familiar with the first “El Shaddai” game, “Ascension of the Metatron” is an action game that was developed and published by UTV Entertainment subsidiary Ignition Entertainment. It was released on April 28, 2011 in Japan and was introduced to the North American market on Aug. 16, 2011.

Unlike “The Lost Child,” the original game is a third-person action with several elements of platform games. Players assume the role of Enoch in the single-player game, since it is inspired by the apocryphal Book of Enoch. In the game, the protagonist is seeking the seven fallen angels in an attempt to prevent the great flood. The scribe is accompanied by guardian angel Lucifel and is assisted by four Archangels in his quest.
