Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer, is quickly becoming one of the most powerful businesswomen in the world.
Sandberg has been a key figure in Facebook's growth, forging partnerships with other companies and giving a veteran presence to the young company, drawing from past experience at Google Inc., McKinsey & Co. and the U.S. Treasury.
According to the company's SEC filing, she earned $31 million in 2011, including stock options, making her the most highly paid executive at the social media company. If Facebook eventually reaches a valuation of $100 billion, Sandberg could be worth over $2.1 billion.
The tech boom has enriched the San Francisco Bay property market, and Sandberg has done her part. Sandberg and husband Dave Goldberg recently bought a home near Facebook's headquarters at 1 Hacker Way in Menlo Park, according to Bloomberg.
That potentially means Sandberg's home at 291 Polhemus Avenue in nearby Atherton, Calif. is coming to the market. The couple paid almost $8 million for the property in 2004, according to city records.
The three-story French Traditional style home has around a dozen bedrooms and bathrooms and is roughly 12,470 square feet, according to property listings. It has five fireplaces, a stucco exterior and sits on around an acre of land.
The home has also been used politically: Sanberg hosted a fundraising event for President Obama last year. She and her husband have been strong Democrat supporters, donating $35,800 to Obama's election campaign, $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee and $2,500 for Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's campaign last year, according to filings.
